Why Wool
Wool is a natural wonder — it gives a carpet unmatched durability, resilience, natural stain resistance and eco-friendly benefits.
Wool — a super material
Sheep have spent a long time evolving a fibre that keeps its shape, sheds water, resists dirt and insulates in both directions. Nobody has improved on it for a floor.
Each wool fibre is naturally crimped, so it springs back after a sofa leg has stood on it for a year. The outer layer resists water long enough for most spills to be blotted before they stain. And because wool is a protein fibre, it does not melt or drip the way many synthetics do.
It is also quiet. Wool takes the edge off hard surfaces, which is why you notice the difference the moment you walk into a carpeted room in an otherwise marble house.
What wool actually does for you
Durability
Crimped fibres recover their shape, so traffic lanes and furniture dents do not become permanent.
Natural stain resistance
The fibre's outer layer repels water long enough for most spills to be blotted up clean.
Sound absorption
Wool pile absorbs footfall and echo — the cheapest acoustic improvement in a hard-surfaced house.
Hypoallergenic
Wool traps dust and allergens in the pile until you vacuum them away, instead of leaving them in the air.
Colour and pattern
Wool takes dye beautifully, which is why the deepest carpet colours are almost always wool.
Low maintenance
Regular vacuuming and the occasional deep clean is all a wool carpet asks for.
Bio-degradable
A carpet made only of natural components is, in effect, a bio-carpet. It will not biodegrade while it is on your floor — that needs moisture and micro-organisms it never meets indoors. But once it is lifted and disposed of, the natural materials break down into plant nutrients: nitrogen, potassium and magnesium.
Old wool carpet can be composted or applied directly as a soil amendment. Very little else that leaves a house at the end of a renovation can say the same.
Our sustainability approach ›Wool is a smart and sustainable flooring option — low maintenance, endlessly variable in colour and pattern, and honest about what it is made of.
When wool is not the answer
We sell synthetics too, and there are rooms where they are simply the better buy. We would rather tell you in the shop than after the invoice.
Very wet areas
Kitchens, bathrooms and wudu areas want SPC or vinyl, not wool.
Short-term fit-outs
A two-year rented office does not need an heirloom carpet. Tiles will do.
Tight budgets
A good synthetic fitted well beats a thin wool carpet fitted badly, every time.
